This is the best, most complete, and bug-free version I have found. Thanks so much for pulling it all together in one place!

With respect and appreciation, Rangerous the Second

A few notes on the Megapaket

1) The Amiga version requires that Amiga ROM files be copied into the following directory:

Megapaket-Fate - Gates of Dawn\Amiga Version\Kickstarts

On my system, I have the default Amiga ROMs in three configurations (sorry, because I have all three, and I have not experimented, I am too ignorant to be able to tell you if it can use any of them, or if it must match one of these formats:

(512KB) Kickstart 3.1 (40.069) (A1200) (Commodore) (1993).rom
(306KB) kickstart_3.1_40.069_1993.zip
(512KB) kick40069.A1200

You may buy the Amiga ROM files at www.amigaforever.com

2) On my Windows 7 machine, the Amiga version works perfectly, without editing the configuration file, if the Megapaket folder is copied directly to the root directory at C:\. If you want to use it in a different location, you must update the path name in the configuration file.

3) Once Amiga ROMs are copied, start the launcher by double clicking this file:

Megapaket-Fate - Gates of Dawn\Amiga Version\Fate - Gates of Dawn.exe

4) Within the launcher, you may choose either Deutsche or English versions.

5) Once Fate is launched, on my system, it begins automatically taking screenshots, causing unpleasant screen flashing every second or so. You may stop this by holding down F12 and pressing F.

6) Happy CRPGing!

Hi,

FS-UAE save states are disabled

Beitrag von Rangerous the Second »

1) FrodeSolheim said that FS-UAE save states are disabled for WHDLoads and for zipped filesystems, because they are unsafe.

In the link noted below, FrodeSolheim discusses this matter briefly, suggesting that:

"If you are going to use unsafe_save_states = 1, then you should also use relative_temp_feature = 1. This will make the save states much more likely to work!"

https://forums.launchbox-app.com/topic/ ... ent-218311

I edited my configuration file accordingly, but as noted, it did not seem to enable my save states. I can only hope that this approach will work for you.

Now, I know that you did not ask this question, and that you have an approach that you wish to follow, but I will also offer that, in my experience, the Megapaket FS-UAE verison of Fate has been extremely stable. I have not experienced any failures with the eight in-game save files. However, I respect every person's wish to enjoy their own preferences. I am sorry that I haven't better news regarding FS-UAE save states. Indeed, WinUAE save states also do not work with WHDLoad programs.

I hope that you are able to find a way to have those same wonderful experiences that we have all have enjoyed with Fate.

Kindest regards, Rangerous the Second

Hallo zusammen .

Welcome!

Hi. According to Fred Solheim (FS-UAE author), it is best to unpack compressed file archives and work with uncompressed folders when using FS-UAE.

Try unpacking and launching from the uncompressed folders.

Just a thought. Hope this helps!

Hello Thanks for the tip but unfortunately the data is already unpacked and Fs UAE runs perfectly with Fate, except for the multiple saving on the same score.

Nevertheless, thanks for the suggestion.

I have another silly idea

Beitrag von Rangerous the Second »

I think you are saying that you are *able* to make the initial save (e.g. game1, game2, ... game8) but if you try to save again, over the top of that save game, it fails.

Anyway, ... I'm struggling with the idea of Windows permissions. I believe that, wherever Fate is located, FS-UAE does not have overwrite permission.

(First idea)

If this is on Windows, my first thought is to try running as administrator.

I'm not sure how to do this, because the Megapaket FS-UAE first loads the launcher, then the launcher executes FS-UAE.exe.

So, I would right click on the launcher icon and choose the drop down menu item "run as administrator," but I'm not sure if the launcher would then launch FS-UAE with administrator permissions.

(Second idea)

Inside my Windows "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" directories, Windows does not allow me to overwrite files without administrator permissions.

I overcame this problem in my Fate by copying Megapaket into my "Documents" directory, and running it from there. Even without administrator permissions, FS-UAE.exe usually has permission to overwrite any file in the "Documents" folder.

So, my second idea only matters if your Fate program has been copied into a restrictive directory such as "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)". If that is the case, please try moving it somewhere into your Documents directory. In my case, my path is ...documents\games\Fate\Megapaket and that has worked nicely for me.

(Third idea)

If it's already in your documents directory, then I wonder if somehow your current user doesn't have ownership of your Fate directory? Here's a link telling the steps to fix that problem. It starts out by saying, "You may find yourself unable to move, edit or copy a file in Windows 10, and often times that's because of the permissions attached to it." That sounds like our problem. Here's the link, although Googling "take ownership of Windows folder" should get the same information:
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/take ... e-explorer
I had to do this some time ago in another instance (where I had copied files from an old computer after an upgrade, and the permissions did not allowed the new computer to make changes to those files), and it solved my problem.

(Fourth idea)
Go to your Fate datafiles directory. Saved games are RAZZ1, RAZZ2, ...RAZZ8. Create a subdirectory for old saves and move these save files to that subdirectory. For the next 8 saves, you will again be saving as if for the first time.

(Fifth idea: Oops, I'm out of ideas -- sorry, I'm all noise and no help)

Hopefully others on this forum will have better and more helpful thoughts. Best of luck -- it's a fun game that's worth the struggle.

Respectfully,
Rangerous the second

Thanks again for the many tips.
I have now recognized the possible solution to my problem.
According to Red me file, I can save on the HD no saved games as long as I'm not registered and logged.
This was not possible until now because the register link is always redirected and then an Error: 500 Internal Server Error appears.
As long as I can not sign up I will save my scores as they have described under point 4.
Thanks again for the tips and apologies for the probably unkorekte English but here is Google Translate at work because my own English is not enough.

https://www.mightandmagicworld.de/fileb ... index.html#
